Storytimes & Activities

Some storytimes require registration, limit attendance, and may have more stringent age requirements; contact the branch for complete information. If you are planning on bringing a group, please call ahead.

Preschool Storytime

Traditional story time for ages 3-5 years offering book related experiences including picture book reading, storytelling, music, puppets, finger plays, short videos and simple crafts. Not all branches do all things. Attending children need to be mature enough to sit by themselves.

  • Mondays at 11:00 AM (3-6 years)
  • Thursdays at 7:00 PM (3-6 years)
  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 AM (3-6 years)

Toddler Storytime

Sequential series, shorter than preschool story time to acquaint young children (18-36 months) with the library, stories, and group participation. May require parental participation, a more stringent age limit and registration.

Sing-A-Long With Songbirds
Ring in spring with stories of pretty birds, yacky birds, homely birds, and laid-back birds. In these fine-feathered tales, kids will chirp right along with Jo's wonderful collection of Audubon birds, each with their own special song.

Storytime in the Park
Come out to Blue Springs Park to hear some wet and wild stories about "The Frog in the Pond" and other "Animal Babies in Ponds and Rivers". If you want to take part in a fun water game, wear clothes that can get wet and bring along a towel. The park is located at the corner of 19th Street and South Avenue. We will meet at Shelter #2. Blue Springs Parks and Rec will provide the water game and Mid-Continent Public Library Blue Springs South branch will present the stories.

Don't Touch That Baby
A live Great Horned Owl and taxidermy mounts of baby animals that did not make it. Basically, it is an informative program that teaches the natural history of wild baby animals with the message "Don't Touch That Baby"!

Wildflower Seedballs
Why wildflowers? What did the land look like 200 years ago? How have we changed it? What are native plants and why are they good? Learn how using native plants can help the land and then make wildflower seedballs to take home and plant.

Rhyme Time: What Comes Next?
In this session, Christine Taylor Butler talks about how stories are made and how a combination of pictures and rhymes can make stories easier to read, even when the book is in French or Spanish.
